Principal's Message
Mr. Ricardo Trujillo August, 2010 Dear Roosevelt H.S. Students: I cannot tell you how both happy and honored I am to serve as your new principal. Roosevelt is a lively, diverse learning community which has demonstrated progress every year. Our school's accomplishments have resulted from your efforts, as well as the work of the extremely talented and dedicated teachers and staff. I look forward to seeing that growth continue in the coming months and years. As we prepare to embark on this journey, we must be careful to remember our history and acknowledge how far we have come. At the same time, we must embrace the future which we will create together without fear. Change often means leaving behind what is comfortable for uncertainty which opens up new horizons. It is also the path to improvement and even transformation that makes us better people, ready to tackle life’s many and various challenges. My job as a leader is to steer that change and build upon the work already done. It is a job I chose after great consideration. I believe in my own and my staff’s ability to carry out this task. More importantly, I believe in you, Roosevelt High School’s students. You are the reason we are here and why we take our jobs so seriously. You are the reason we dedicate ourselves to be educators. Roosevelt is a truly impressive learning community. However, we have our challenges as well. The good news is that we are the agents of change. We possess the ability and talents to meet those challenges head-on. It all begins in the classroom. Your teachers have been hard at work, preparing rigorous, engaging lessons that will take us to the next level and you to your next destination. You will remember your high school experience as some of the most formative and enjoyable times of your life. However, your high school journey is also a transition to your next venture. We are here to prepare you for the future, one that will require more education. In many ways, we are here to show you how to learn. It is extremely important that you master these lessons to ensure that you are successful at your next destination. To ensure your success in post-secondary education, you must be in every class every day. Every lesson is important, and missing school should be reserved only for emergencies. By the same token, your safety is equally important. I expect every student to behave in a manner which ensures the best learning environment. I also expect students to have high expectations. Every student should expect to do well and seek help when faced with challenges. Finally, I expect service to the school through teams, clubs, and/or activities. Because we promise to offer you our best, I expect the same in return. Every student must demonstrate growth in his/her time at Roosevelt. Roosevelt High School is a high-performing learning community ready for that great next step. The challenging work you and your teachers do will lead you on the path to success. Although we are bound to face many obstacles over the course of the journey, we will also enjoy many successes. Learning is a combination of both successes and setbacks. In the end, we will grow and prosper as a community, which we seek and desire. Know that education makes us better people and improves our lives. That is why we are here. Very truly yours,
