September 2009
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to Roosevelt High School! Congratulations on your decision to join the Roosevelt High School Family! We know that you will have an exciting and rewarding school year!
Roosevelt High School represents a tapestry of hope where over 30 different language groups from 60 different countries are represented. We are a school that not only acknowledges, but celebrates diversity! We know the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Our vision at Roosevelt High School is the following:
RHS empowers each student to develop to his/her maximum potential by holistically educating every student to contribute positively to a global society.
We want our students to have access to a better quality of life. In order for our students to have that access, they need to be prepared for COLLEGE! Through our experience with the College Board EXCELerator Project, we know the best way to prepare our students is by exposing them to the same type of rigorous curriculum they would find in college. We strongly encourage you to take advanced placement courses! They are challenging, exciting, and the successful completion of the test may help you earn college credit while in high school. Be sure to visit our College and Career Resource Center. Get to know your counselor and post secondary coach.
We also invite you to participate in the many extracurricular activities at Roosvelt High School. Be sure to ask your counselor, teachers, AVID coach or Link Crew leader about our diverse clubs. Inquire about our award winning musical theater program. Join the Bee Keeping Club or the Society of Hispanic and Professional Engineers or the National Honor Society. Getting involved in school activities is a good way to stay focused on graduation.
Parents, your role is so important. We urge you to get and stay involved in your child’s education. We have a Bilingual Parents’ group, a No Child Left Behind Parent group, and of course our Local School Council. Stay in touch with school events.
Students, best wishes for a productive 2009-2010 school year!
Sincerely
Dr. Alejandra Alvarez,Principal
